The above is a very simple example of how things may work. The station is normally controlled by the blue controller and the fiddle yard controlled by the red controller. It would be normal to allow the station to drive trains arriving at the station, and the fiddle yard to drive trains leaving the station.

With signals 1 and 2 both normal (at danger), each controller may operate within station limits, i.e. to the respective starter signal. having formed a train in the fiddle yard, the red controller pulls off his signal 2 and this transfers track power within the fiddle yard to the station controller, blue.

The station controller may now drive the train the whole way into the platform.

The same happens in reverse, when the blue controller is ready he transfers power to the fiddle yard by pulling lever 1 in his frame. The fiddle yard may now drive the train the whole way.

On a layout both levers would be near the station operator and simple communication by LED or bell codes would alert the second operator as to the state of play.
